Here’s what I’d rather do:
🙅🏻♀️ Bury back under the covers.
🙅🏻♀️ Plan a move to another country.
🙅🏻♀️ Binge-watch Great British Bake Show.
🙅🏻♀️ Ram as hard as I can into that Tesla truck at the stoplight.
I definitely don’t want to post on social media.
I already deleted threads, IG, Reddit, and the New York Times apps from my phone for an online detox.
But we have businesses to run.
I’m responsible for supporting my family of four.
I can’t stop in my tracks simply because I’m angry, scared, hopeless, and feeling helpless. But social media is just not it for me: both posting and scrolling increase all of those feelings.
So what is?
Here are 3 ways to let your business market on auto-pilot:
1 / Core Messaging
Today, I sent a client email that started like this:
“First off, I hope you’ve been coping this past week. It has been tough over here to keep on trucking, since the rage is overwhelming. However, when I did check in on social media, I really appreciated your transparent and honest reel about how to talk to our kids.”
You can start client emails like this when you know your values align. Just like you're getting a 100% vulnerable, transparent email right now. 🫣
You already know that when potential clients land on your website, you are either drawing them in or repelling them.
I'm sure you've heard "yOu haVe 30 sEcoNds to mAke aN iMpreSsion"... and yup that’s with visual and written messaging.
Who does your visual and written messaging attract? Are they an ideal client?
2 / SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Stash some SEO seeds on your website and let them work for you long after you forgot you even planted them.
What kinds of seeds?
🌱 Blog Posts
🌱 Case Studies
🌱 Portfolio Pieces
🌱 Testimonials
🌱 FAQs
🌱 On-Site SEO
For best results: tend to them occasionally. Edit, update, and add more.
Want to ignore them because life suddenly got too real? Go for it. They’ll continue to work for you even years after you create them.
Are you planting SEO seeds? Where are your opportunities to tend to them, or plant more?
3 / Client Experience
Client relationships are key for me because connection is one of my core values.
But they are also key to my business model. I often work with clients over the long-term rather than one-and-done projects.
Sometimes you don’t have time or energy to post on social media, create YouTube content, or send your weekly email.
What a relief to know you have a group of past clients that want to work with you – and that you want to work with too.
The key to creating long-term client relationships?
The experience you provide, whether:
… your contact form redirect,
… your email marketing welcome series,
… the user journey throughout your website,
… your social media links page,
… or even the ease of understanding your website navigation.
Have you thought about your client experience through the lens of your website? Where are you inspiring your current and potential clients, and where do you have opportunities to discover and delight?
Look Reader, I’m sorry this isn’t chock-full of quick-wins, shortcuts, or cheat sheets.
I’d much prefer to be able to send you a 5-minute resource today.
But sometimes it’s about taking deep breaths, centering yourself, and looking at the long game.
And if I’m being honest – unplugging, slowing down, and planning right now makes this helpless feeling… slightly better.

📚 Reading:
I was diagnosed with ADHD a few weeks ago, after both of my kids were. I know, such a cliche. How to Keep House While Drowning is not a new release, but it's timely for many of us. It offers an approach to taking care of your life while dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD, parental trauma, chronic illness, postpartum, bereavement, lack of support.... so far, it's been a cozy listen on audiobook.
🔎 Tech Find:
A digital detox is legit difficult, and I keep grabbing my phone for a distraction. I've replacing my usual scrolling apps with Betwixt, a combo choose-your-own adventure story game + mental health app. It's fun to play, and an independent study found that found that playing for 2 weeks can reduce anxiety and stress about 30% – equivalent to 8 weeks of daily meditation with one of the most popular apps on the market.
🌱 Launched:
Working with Allyn Miller on the brand, website, and copy for her revolutionary parenting course at Child Connection was a gift. She uses nervous system regulation as the lens for better parenting and wow it is an excellent reframe. I'm so pumped for her Parenting in Flow course to begin!
